Parental paranoia

Hi, everyone…

Sorry I haven’t been on much the last few days; Abby had an unusual mole on her back, and I’ve been so worried about it (we just had it removed this morning for a biopsy) that I haven’t been able to think of anything else.

Which means not much writing, not much blogging… not much of anything but obsessively googling skin conditions and scaring the you-know-what out of myself.

I’ll find out more tomorrow or the next day, when the lab results come back. I’m sure it’s fine, but it’s been scary. And I’m suddenly noticing all the oncology clinics around town.

Hope all is well where you are. More soon…

Karen

    Hang in there,

Let us know what you find out. In the meantime, I’ll be praying that it’s nothing.

    Hi Karen!

I am sure it’s nothing, you’ve always lathered them up in sunscreen, and childhood skin cancer is very rare. You guys are both very dark, so she is probably just starting to get her moles.

I heard of a cute way for kids to register their moles: to go on a ‘mole patrol’, and draw a chart of the moles on their body. There is even a little rhyme:

“Moles are big, moles are small,
Make sure you do the mole patrol!
With a mole over here, and a mole over there,
    Moles can be just anywhere!”

    Lots of hugs!
    Thea

    Hi Karen,

How frightening for you and your family. I truly hope it’s nothing.
You’ll all be in my prayers.

  5. Oh Karen, I’d be too scared to write too! Hugs to you and Abby (that poor kid has been through enough this spring!) and please keep us posted.

  6. Karen-I wonder if there’s something in the water that’s making kids all ‘moley’. Grace had a bunch removed in 3rd grade and I was scared to death and several of her friends had them removed too. It turned out Grace is just a moley person. I betcha anything she’s just part of the moley kid epidemic! I’m sending up some prayers, Melissa

    Keeping you in prayers.

  8. Gosh…

Thank you all so very much; I can’t tell you how touched I am knowing I’ve got all of you rooting for my girl.

Candy, thanks a million; I know you’ve been there.

John — thanks for your prayers, and I’ll post as soon as I know…

Thea, you’re a sweetheart, and my kiddos and I dearly hope you move back to Austin! (I’ll have to tell the kids the rhyme.)

Debra, I’m sure it’s nothing (at least at this moment in time), but thank you so very much for your thoughts and prayers…

Christa, unfortunately, this is a normal spring for us. Well, except for the melanoma scare. There are always hospital/doctor’s visits in March. I don’t know why.

Melissa, maybe it’s because we all live in the sunbelt! But that’s encouraging. Let’s hope she and Grace are just moley girls!

    And jar, thanks a million.

Gosh, you guys are great. I can’t tell you how much comfort it gives me knowing you’re thinking of us.

    Big hugs all around…

    K
